Jiri Kosina asks whether the current maintainer tree is too flat, further asking whether some of the people currently sending directly to Linus should instead go through a submaintainer.
Jan Kara gave FS as an example where the various filesystems generally send directly to Linus instead of going through a global FS submaintainer. But he felt that the natural choice for this submaintainer job would be Al Viro, and that he did not believe that Al would be interested in this sort of integration work. Furthermore, Jan does not believe that there are many conflicts between commits for the various filesystems, and therefore believes that there is no harm in changes from each filesystem going directly to Linus.
Rafael's response to Jan's post was “Well, as long as there are not too many conflicts, that works just fine.”
